I attended the World of Learning exhibition at Birmingham’s NEC earlier this month. It was lovely to find it was an intimate event offering the opportunity to catch up with people I’d met before and meet new connections. There was a wide range of exhibitors and free seminars in a variety of subjects.

A question which resonated with me is one from Matt Ash’s seminar ‘The future of learning design’

“When designing training think… ‘Would I want to do this?”

I believe learning and development practitioners need to consider how they, and others, like to learn and before proposing and designing a learning solution.

YouTube is evidencing that people prefer to learn using video in both their professional and personal life’s. For the 3rd consecutive year, YouTube was identified as the best learning tool in Jane Harts The Top Tools for Learning 2018 list.

Thinking back to Matt’s question; would I rather learn through a 1day course, 30 minute eLearning program or short videos at the point of need?

If you need to design a bespoke training solution, video learning has never been more accessible and easy to produce in house. It was great to see so many exhibitors focusing on video production and video hosting, Padcaster were also present offering a, fully mobile, video studio to capture your own video using an iPad or smartphone.

From 2019 I plan to focus on sharing my knowledge in video production and develop individuals who want to introduce video to meet training needs. Feel free to contact me to discuss your project to see how I can offer my services and help your succeed.
