Time for a reset

I was recently hacked and the wrong people had access to my email and social accounts.

Whilst setting everything back up and strengthening my security has been frustrating, it’s given me an unexpected opportunity to reset. It’s forced me to look at all the platforms where I have a presence and boy, there was a lot! With so many places to connect and find information, there’s no wonder I feel overwhelmed when trying to ‘catch up’.

It’s also allowed me to review my digital spaces and how I use them. I’ve discovered, I’m trying to be different on each platform, a friend here, a business owner over there and a professional everywhere else. It’s exhausting!

In some ways I should thank the hackers, as it gives me a chance to reflect and restart.

So, in an effort to limit the digital overload and focus on what’s important, I’ve decided to limit the platforms I rejoin. It turns out I’m connected to the same people in multiple places, so I’m not worried about ‘missing out’.

Looking through my digital footprint has forced me to reflect on the business I’d set up with Focus ‘n Develop and the personal information that’s available online. As such, I’ve decided to close the limited company and take things back to where they started. A blog, a space to reflect on video, and encourage more people to explore smartphone videography.

Focusing the site on SEO and keywords meant it became a chore and a task I wasn’t enjoying. It turns out I’m not a very good marketer anyway. Hopefully this re-sparks my love for blogging and give me space to share more.

Watch this space!

P.S. It might be worthwhile checking your passwords aren’t the same for all your socials!
