2019 for Niki Hobson

What a year 2018 has been!

On reflection it’s been a very busy year having attended Learning Technologies conference in Feb, a number of #LnDcowork events in Nottingham, World of Learning Conference in October and Learning Tech’s Summer Forum in June.  I was part of a pilot course in Neuroscience in L&D held at CIPD headquarters and was featured on TLDCast’s Video Friday back in September. My employer also invited Andy Lancaster and the CIPD into my workplace and it was a delight to listen to his input regarding the future of L&D and emerging roles (I said it was busy!).

The Learning and Development community is one I am very privileged to be a part of with so many wonderful individuals willing to share their experience and stories so we can all grow. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone I have connected with either through this blog, via Twitter or in person. I look forward to meeting more wonderful people in 2019. I believe the people I have met have supported my development this year and these connections have inspired in one way or another to get out of my comfort zone and take the next step in my career.

So how do I top 2018, well… I’ve decided to work as a freelance learning designer alongside my permanent role and have re-jigged this blog to explain the area I will be specialising in – video.  I want to encourage people introduce and enhance the use of video in the workplace and aim to support organisations at any stage of the video learning journey.

As Ellen Johnson Sirleaf once said, if your dreams don’t scare you, the aren’t big enough.

This dream is terrifying, but if I don’t try then I’ve already failed and the dream to work freelance just won’t go away. The most important question is what is stoping me, and as I can’t answer it without making silly excuses here I go at the start of this journey!

I wish this new year will prove to be a happy and prosperous year for you and hope you’ll turn every opportunity into success in the coming year.
